WVU Football Schedule

West Virginia has announced its 2006 football schedule. The Mountaineers will play seven home games, but face three foes in away weeknight games.
WVU, the three-time defending Big East champion, opens the 2006 campaign on Saturday, September 2, at home against Marshall. Other home games are against Maryland, Syracuse, Cincinnati, USF, Rutgers and Buffalo. Five games – Maryland, Connecticut, Louisville, Pitt and Rutgers – are already slated for national television.
“Playing 12 games gives us the opportunity to add another BCS-conference opponent to our schedule in Mississippi State from the SEC, along with Maryland from the ACC,” said WVU athletic director Ed Pastilong.
West Virginia plays its first three games at home, and finishes in what should be a very cold December 2 home game against Rutgers.
“I’m sure our fans will see this as an attractive schedule because of the seven home games,” said head coach Rich Rodriguez. “I think it’s quite a challenge for our team, with four weeknight games and three of those on short weeks. I’m not in favor of playing three weeknight conference games on the road, because of the class time we miss, but television dictates most of our schedule. Our young team will have to meet the challenge again.”
West Virginia begins spring practice on March 20. The Gold-Blue game is set for Saturday, April 15, at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium; kickoff will be 12:30 p.m.
